Global running day at the Angel City Brewery & DCA Los Angeles dance platform

It’s always nice to photograph and document events in the great city of Los Angeles, CA – On this occasion our class documented the a 5k fun run that took place at the Angel City Brewery in DTLA. Global Running Day is a worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone to get moving. It doesn’t matter how fast you run or how far you go—what’s important is that you take part, and how you do it is up to you 🙂

At the brewery I had the opportunity to meet Jason who has been a pace leader for the conqur endurance group since 2014 and Laurie an ambassador for the Los Angeles marathon.

Later that night we photographed the LA dance party/USA. The platform provides an immersive and educational experience, which pays homage to the city’s rich history of dance. Talented dance professionals, curators, educators, founders, and presenters were invited to learn and engage with the city’s compelling dance scene, showcasing its breadth, excellence, and diversity. The artists who were selected represent a cross-section of the established, emerging, and commercial dance artists in the city’s vibrant dance community.

DCA LA Dance Platform was organized in partnership with Grand Performances, Luckman Fine Arts Complex at Cal State LA, The Ford Theatres, Los Angeles Performance Practice, LA Dance Project Studio, Diavolo Dance Studio, BPStudios-Brokus Projects, and Downtown Dance & Movement.

It was a nightcap of music, dancing and interactive fun designed to capture the energy and creativity of dance makers, movers and shakers in celebration of LA’s vibrant dance scene. Here are some images of the night!

Star Walk – Hollywood, California

CalifonirOur photojournalism class continues to be a great success, on this occasion we had the opportunity to visit the Star Walk in Hollywood, CA where we interviewed several street vendors and captured a glimpse of the night life on the always colorful and exciting Hollywood blvd.

Don Antonio who is currently retired but works on the Star Walk selling hot dogs described the night as being particularly slow, however he mentioned he loved to work as it was more fun than staying home to watch tv. We also met Martin who sold glow sticks and colorful lights, he’s been working there for the last 8 years only at night. When asked about permits to sell goods on the Star Walk he told us none of the street vendors had a license to sell there but instead they were on the look out for the police who at times takes away their goods and writes them a hefty ticket, despite all this adversity it is fun and worth the risk.

See you on the next field trip where we will continue to capture life as it happens on the streets of LA.

Chinatown – Los Angeles, California

As we continue to explore the city of Los Angeles, our photojournalism class had the opportunity to visit Chinatown, a festive destination for dining and shopping but most of all great photographic opportunities, to document and capture life as it happens.

A few blocks from Chinatown Central Plaza, on the intersection of College and Broadway, we had the opportunity to meet Clarence B, a kind man who has been living on the streets for the last 17 years, he told us he used to be a pastor and a part of the US armed forces. When asked about health services, he replied with a smile “there’s simply no medical services”. I am looking forward to documenting and meeting more friends in the streets of LA as our class continues the quest for more life stories.

Photojournalism Class – Los Angeles Times Food Bowl 2018

As part of our series of class assignments we had the opportunity to visit the the second annual – Los Angeles Times Night Market Food Bowl that took over Grand Park in Los Angeles, CA on May 16, 2018 where the participants were able to sample some of the city’s best food produced by local restaurants and food trucks.

A night filled with color, plenty of drinks and music! The Night Market offered a great opportunity to explore, document and take incredible images representing the essence of the event as it offered more than 50 diverse vendors, special chef collaborations and demonstrations, DJs, music performances, light projections, entertainment stages, and an outstanding in the Field long-table feast. The event was completely free! But one could purchase tickets to the Supermarket Area that allowed access to curated food vendors, additional seating areas and food booths, bars, premium lounges and entertainment. Thank you to all the students for coming along and being a part of the class 🙂

This workshop was more than just a workshop. It was an opportunity to meet other photographers that are passionate about photography as much as I am.  It was intimate and therefore it felt as though I was out with a bunch of FUN friends. We photographed, ate, laughed and almost cried from so much laughter.  It was a wonderful trip. Thank you Juan Alaniz. ReplyCancel
